Sumaria Systems wins USDA Risk Management Agency Contract
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Sumaria Systems, Inc., was recently awarded a three-year contract to continue software development and research for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA’s) Risk Management Agency )RMA). The USDA RMA was created in 1996 and helps to ensure that farmers have the financial tools necessary to manage their agricultural risks. The RMA provides coverage through the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC) founded in 1938, which promotes national welfare by improving the economic stability of agriculture.
Under this contract, Sumaria, exclusively teamed with DataScape, LLC, will support the RMA’s initiative to update the Nursery Eligible Plant List, Inventory software, Appraisal software and Regional Office Plant Selection software for the 2008, 2009 and 2010 Crop Years.
"Sumaria is very pleased to continue its database and software work for the USDA RMA, and is privileged to participate in this important activity that helps manage the country’s agricultural risks," stated George Duffield, Vice President of St. Louis Operations, Sumaria Systems, Inc.
Previously, Sumaria’s team has supported the RMA’s two prior contracts to maintain and update their Inventory software, Appraisal software and Regional Office (RO) Plant Selection software, which are revised each crop year to correspond with Eligible Plant List & Plant Price Schedule )EPLPPS) updates and to update the Nursery Eligible Plant List.
The Nursery Crop Insurance Program EPLPPS Database lists all field grown and containerized wholesale nursery plants that are insurable under the Nursery Crop Insurance Program. The EPLPPS lists base prices for each plant type and the measurement method(s) insured under each type, and also specifies hardiness zone limitations for all listed plants and storage protection requirements for containerized plants.
Sumaria manages its USDA support functions out of its St. Louis Regional Operations Center located in O’Fallon, Ill.
