Defense Contractor Sumaria Systems Earns CMMI® Level III Assessment for Software Development
CMMI® Level III Assessment Certificate
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Sumaria Systems, Inc., provider of Information Technology, Engineering and Professional services to Department of Defense (DoD) and government clients, has received a CMMI Level III assessment in accordance with the Software Engineering Institute’s (SEI’s) Capability Maturity Model® Integration (CMMI®) criteria.
The SEI advances software engineering and related disciplines to ensure the development and operation of systems with predictable and improved cost, schedule and quality. Sumaria Systems’ assessment is based on SEI’s five Process Maturity Model levels: I-Initial, II-Repeatable, III-Defined, IV-Managed and V-Optimizing.
"The entire Sumaria team went above and beyond for our CMMI Level III assessment, surpassing the average time it takes by six months," stated Tommy Pope, Director, Sumaria Systems, Inc. "Our team achieved this milestone in 12 months versus the usual 18 that it normally takes."
Sumaria’s assessment was performed by an SEI-authorized Lead Assessor, who examined 17 process areas including 326 practices and 3,000 artifacts, utilizing the CMMI® Version 1.2 criteria. The CMMI process improvement approach provides organizations with the essential elements of effective processes, and can be used to guide process improvement across a project, a division, or an entire organization. CMMI helps integrate traditionally separate organizational functions, set process improvement goals and priorities, provide guidance for quality processes, and provide a point of reference for appraising current processes.
"Sumaria Systems is pleased with its continuous improvement efforts in going from a CMM Level III to a CMMI Level III assessment. I am very proud of our staff’s commitment to quality and their successful track record of CMM and CMMI assessments," stated Venilal Sumaria, President & CEO, Sumaria Systems. "We look forward to continuing our process improvement initiatives."
In addition to its latest CMMI® Level III assessment, Sumaria Systems, Inc., is also an ISO 9001:2000 certified and ISO 8000-110:2008 Master Data Quality Management certified Information Technology, Engineering and Professional Services company headquartered in Danvers, Mass., with offices in Washington, D.C.; Dayton, Ohio; St. Louis, Mo.; Montgomery, Ala.; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Colorado Springs, Colo. About the Software Engineering Institute (SEI)
The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) is a federally funded research and development center sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) through the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics [OUSD (AT&L)]. The SEI contract was competitively awarded to Carnegie Mellon University in December 1984.
The DoD established the SEI to advance the practice of software engineering to improve the quality of systems that depend on software. The SEI accomplishes this mission by promoting the evolution of software engineering from an ad hoc, labor-intensive activity to a discipline that is well managed and supported by technology.
The SEI does not "certify" any appraisal findings or maturity levels, nor does the SEI confirm or deny that any organization has performed an appraisal.
